Die multimediale Installation untersucht Entscheidungsprozesse junger Menschen am Beispiel Ostfrieslands. Die Frage zu gehen oder zu bleiben ist dabei nicht allein Ausdruck individueller Präferenzen, sondern Ergebnis sozialer, emotionaler und struktureller Einflussfaktoren. Bildungschancen, Mobilität, Freizeitangebote und soziale Bindungen wirken als Push- und Pull-Faktoren. Die Arbeit löst die vereinfachte Gegenüberstellung von Stadt und Land auf und eröffnet einen differenzierten Blick auf das Erleben peripherer Räume. Als atmosphärisches Porträt Ostfrieslands und seiner Bewohner*innen fungiert die Dreikanal-Videoinstallation, während das begleitende Buch die persönlichen Geschichten vertieft und die Vielfalt der Perspektiven erfahrbar macht.

Decision-making Processes among Young People in Rural Areas
The multimedia installation examines the decision-making processes of young people, using East Frisia as a case study. The question of whether to leave or stay is not merely an expression of individual preference, but the result of social, emotional, and structural factors. Educational opportunities, mobility, leisure options, and social ties function as push and pull factors. The project challenges the simplified dichotomy of urban versus rural and offers a nuanced perspective on the lived experience of peripheral regions. The three-channel video installation serves as an atmospheric portrait of East Frisia and its inhabitants, while the accompanying book deepens the personal narratives and makes the diversity of perspectives tangible.
